Etnomuzykolog, związana z Uniwersytetem im. Adama Mickiewicza w Poznaniu i z Uniwersytetem Wrocławskim, gdzie na stanowisku profesora pracuje dydaktycznie. Bardzo aktywna naukowo, prowadziła i prowadzi badania nad różnymi kulturami etnomuzycznymi czego wyrazem jest książka "Tradycyjna wielogłosowość wokalna w kulturach basenu Morza Śródziemnego" oraz liczne artykuły (autorka prowadziła badania m.in. na Sardynii. Zajmowała się też żydowskim śpiewem synagogalnym oraz tradycją muzyczną polskich mniejszości w Rumunii, na Białorusi, Litwie, na Ukrainie, Syberii, a obecnie w Brazylii.

"Traditional Polyvokality in Cultures of the Mediterranean Basin"

The presented study is yet another examination of the existence of a great cultural community in the region of the Mediterranean basin, which upon numerous occasions recurred in musicological and extramusicological literature. This time, an attempt at defining the features of the Mediterranean idiom was made in reference to traditional local polyvocality. The examined reality is interpreted both in the conceptual categories of the creators and the users of a given musical culture (emic viewpoint), as well as described from the stance of an outside observer (etic viewpoint). One of the primary issues appears to be the acknowledgement within the discussed cultures of the foremost role of the sonorous qualities of music. They merge as a result of the cooperation of a number of different factors; a phenomenon which in this work is described as sonoristri. an intentional shape of music as well as in concrete performances, became one of the main research tasks.
